Mary Perkins celebrates 100th birthday

Mary Perkins turned 100 on January 17, 2026. She celebrated her milestone birthday with an Oklahoma Sooners themed party, fitting for a true OU fan. She remembers some of the earliest OU games and listening to them on the radio. To this day, she still tunes in on the radio or television to watch the games.

Ms. Perkins loves to talk about her time working as a telephone operator and enjoys sharing history and the many events she has witnessed throughout her lifetime. She recalls living in Dallas when John F. Kennedy was shot and killed. She remembers how people called from all over simply to feel connected and to share their sympathy with anyone during such a tragic time. She worked just down the road from where the shooting occurred.

Throughout her lifetime, Ms. Perkins has witnessed so much history and truly enjoys sharing those memories with her family. She often recites Psalm 23 from memory and loves to share this Bible verse with everyone she knows.

Mary Lee Perkins of Bennington, OK, was born on January 17, 1926. She is the daughter of the late Nora Lee (Gardner) Pettey and the late Grover Pettey. She is proud of her Choctaw heritage and gives thanks to the Good Lord for blessing her throughout the years.

Ms. Perkins enjoys spending time with friends and family.

The family and Ms. Perkins would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Centric Home Health & Hospice, Hair Designs by Charlotte, Ms. Donna’s Pies, and everyone who helped celebrate her special day.
