Durant City Council seat to be on Febuary 10 election

Voters will be headed to the polls on Feb. 10 to chose a candidate for Durant City Council seat Ward 2.

Clint Morrison, Johnny Manners Jr. and Lisa Jensen filed for the seat which is a three-year unexpired term. Lauran Fuller held this seat until resigning in August.

Primary board of education elections are also on Feb. 10.

Casey Powers was the only person to file for the Durant Board of Education Office No. 1, so there will not be an election. Powers replaces Paul Buntz, who did not seek reelection.

Keith Eppler, Daniel Brown, Brandon Beaver and Bryce Ingram filed for Silo Public School Office No. 1 which is a five-year term.

Colbert Public Schools has two bond propositions on the Feb. 10 ballot.

Proposition 1 is for $280,000 and it will fund the purchase of vehicles, installing security fencing at Eastward Elementary, cafeteria equipment and renovations district-wide to include but not limited to flooring and HVAC.

Proposition 2 is also for $280,000 and it would fund the purchase of three buses.

The school district said on its website that there is no projected tax increase for either bond.

Early voting begins Thursday, Feb. 5 for voters in Bryan County.

Bryan County Election Board Secretary Kimberly Norris said early voting is open to all voters.

“You do not need to provide an excuse to vote early. Oklahoma allows early voting for all elections conducted by the County Election Board or State Election Board — from school board and municipal elections to state and federal elections. This is a great option for those who will be out of town on election day or who want to avoid long lines,” Norris said.

Early voting is available Thursday, Feb. 5 and Friday, Feb. 6 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Bryan County Election Board located at 402 W. Evergreen St. Norris reminds voters that early voting is not available at polling locations.

Sample ballots are now available for the Feb. 10 election. Voters can download a sample ballot using the State Election Board OK Voter Portal at oklahoma.gov/elections/ ovp or pick up a copy at the Bryan County Election Board during normal business hours.

Candidates interested in filing for the 1-year unexpired seat of the Caddo of Board of Trustees will file Declarations of Candidacy beginning 8 a.m. Monday, Feb. 9.

Those who wish to file for a municipal office must submit a Declaration of Candidacy to the Bryan County Election Board Feb. 9-11 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Candidate filing packets are available on the State Election Board website at https:// oklahoma.gov/elections/ candidates/candidate-filing. html and at the County Election Board.

The special election is scheduled for April 7.
