Durant High School senior is Academic All-State honoree

Durant High School senior Emma Green was recognized during last week’s Durant Board of Education meeting for being named a 2026 Academic All-State honoree.

She is among 100 Oklahoma high school seniors to be recognized May 2 by the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence during a banquet at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City.

“We’re so proud of her, and it is not an easy list of criteria to meet in order to qualify for that,” said Durant High School Principal Amber Bullard. “They’re looking for academic accomplishments and then also a deep commitment to their community, and Emma is the epitome of both of those. She has a 4.469 GPA because of the number of AP classes and concurrent classes that she’s taking and made straight A’s in all of those. She’s ranked first in her class for Durant High School. She’ll be an honor graduate.”

Bullard said that Green is a cornerstone of leadership at the high school. She serves on student council and is an executive officer this school year.

“I had the pleasure of being a student council advisor for the last couple years, and I saw firsthand the difference that Emma makes, how much she loves our school,” Bullard said. “She loves Durant High School, she loves the students, she loves the teachers. She’s just highly regarded by students and teachers at our school.”

Green is also on the Lady Lions basketball team.

“Hopefully, I can say this without crying, but when we lost coach Rob, it was hard and Emma’s leadership shined during that time because she led that team and they came to her not only for friendship, but for spiritual guidance and I just couldn’t be more proud,” Bullard said.

Superintendent Mark Moring congratulated Green.

School board member Joyce Northcutt said, “I know your parents are extremely proud of you, but I want you to know that everybody on this board and everybody in this community is very proud of you.”

Students can apply for Academic All-State only if they meet one of three criteria: an ACT composite score of at least 30; a combined SAT evidence-based reading and writing and math score of at least 1370 or having been selected as a semifinalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program.

The 2026 All-State class averaged a 33 on the ACT, with nine honorees scoring a perfect 36. Their weighted average GPA is 4.36, and 38 are semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program.
