Caddo edges Calera slow pitch to top area action

Runs were extremely hard to come by but Caddo managed to make three tallies in the opening frame stand up for a tight 3-2 opening week victory over Calera in slow pitch softball action.

Calera posted an 8-6 advantage in hits but only plated two runs against the solid Lady Bruin defense.

A pair of Lady Bulldog errors opened the door early for Caddo ahead of a Brylee Daniel two-run triple. Gage Vaughn followed with an RBI single but Calera settled in from there and didn’t allow another run.

Jaedyn Umsted opened the second with the first of three straight hits for Calera on a single to left. Aaliyah Wesley chipped in a double and Rilyn Teafatiller knocked in the initial tally on a single. Taryn Niblett contributed a run-scoring hit before Caddo worked out of a bases-loaded jam with a double play to end the frame.

It was all zeros on the scoreboard the rest of the contest as Vaughn led the six-hit Caddo attack with a pair of singles. Daniel added the triple while Braylee Malone, Audrey Hughes and Harlee Taylor each posted a hit.

Teafatiller and Niblett notched two hits apiece for Calera as Makenna Owens, Umsted, Wesley and Emilee Summit all provided one hit.

Silo 13, Moore 3 (Softball)

A strong 18-hit offensive assault allowed the Lady Rebels to make a statement against perennial power Moore in the season opening set that also included a 12-0 blanking of Chandler.

Silo wasted little time in erupting for four runs in the top of the first frame getting a Neely House home run along with singles by Connie and Kostina Tubby as well as Maddix Sander, Paislee Johnson and Dylan Paddock.

It was only a 4-1 lead until the Lady Rebels plated two runs in the fifth before breaking it wide open in a sevenrun sixth frame.

Connie and Kostina Tubby along with Sander all finished with three hits for the Lady Rebels but it was Jayci Webb who swung the biggest bat with a triple, homer and whopping seven runs batted in.

House, Paetyn Garrett, Abi Cordell, Johnson and Kamrey Hendricks tallied one hit apiece.

Caddo 9, Tushka 1 (Baseball)

Eighth-ranked Caddo opened the season in impressive fashion by scoring nine unanswered runs to stun the top-ranked Tigers.

Bruin starting hurler Boen Proctor yielded a run in the first frame without the aid of a hit but settled in after that to blank Tushka bats on only three hits the rest of the way. He struck out seven.

Caddo notched three runs in the first, two in the second and three more in the fourth frame while taking command.

Jase Counce was the offensive catalyst with a pair of hits along with driving in four of the nine runs. Bayler Black contributed two hits, including a double. Proctor, Noah Carvell and Nathaniel Hallmark posted one hit apiece.

Silo 6, Bixby 1 (Baseball)

The Rebels took it right to the Class 6A Spartans from the start by scoring two runs in each of the first two innings.

That was more than enough offensive support for the junior pitching duo of Aiden McCarty and Nolan Northcott as they combined to frustrate the Bixby bats throughout the game. McCarty worked four innings while yielding a run on seven hits with three strikeouts for the mound victory while Northcott fired three scoreless frames of one-hit relief in notching the save.

Silo’s bats produced 10 hits, four of which came on bunt singles. Zane Sander led the charge with three hits, two runs scored and one RBI.

Jacob Wright and Cannon Atwood tossed in two hits each with Northcott, Ty Hatley and Warner Bradley all tossing in one.

Calera 11, Wister 0 (Baseball)

Hayzn Applegate was stellar in twirling a three-hit shutout over six strong innings to spur the Bulldogs past perennial contender Wister.

The Calera righthander struck out nine and walked only two in the victory.

They also rode a massive game at the plate from Demarcus Dunn, who smacked a pair of home runs and drove in three to fuel the offensive onslaught.

Hoff Weil contributed a triple as part of his two hits and also knocked in three runs. Jaron Varner added a pair of hits while Logan Bumgarner, Applegate, Cody Langley, Lex Carlton, Talon Rose and Matthew Sweeney all had one hit.
