The Bryan County OHCE Executive held their monthly meeting in the Clay Jones Building to discuss upcoming events and projects Following the devotions, treasurer report and other committee reports the group went forward to complete the plans for the upcoming events and projects.
The biggest upcoming event is the OHCE Week is May3 through May 9. A proclamation signing will be at the County Commissioners at 8:45 Monday May 4th at the Courthouse Annex and all OHCE members are encouraged to attend. To make this year’s celebration a little more special, the members will be sharing their celebration with the Co-operative Extension Service, who will be celebrating their 112th anniversary. This May the 6th celebration will include a tea event with a decorated hat contest, recognition of years of membership and, of course, food. Members are encouraged to bring a guest to participate in the fun activities.
Plans were made to set a sewing day for the group to complete the “Road to Oklahoma“ quilt blocks.
For a a show and tell time, members presented their favorite quilt block and had directions for them available. Some even brought their completed quilt for show and tell. One of the fun things about Bryan County OHCE is the members’ willingness to share their talents.
FCS Educator Tommie James thanked Phyllis Bond, Elaine James, and Charlotte James for volunteering at the 4-H Sewing Day Camp. Six youths made a pin cushion owl, and I-pad and cell phone holder. She also thanked Mary Knight for providing all the sewing kits. She thanked Phyllis Bond for judging the County 4-H Design & Construction Contest. James is now in need of adult volunteers for the Adult Beginners Sewing Class on Monday, April 27, Library Health Literacy Program. Sewing Project I-pad & Cell Phone holder at the Library with all fabric and supplies provided. She also reminded everyone of the upcoming Garden show beginning April 10.
Creative quilt Blocks were presented by Lulu and Hazel Quilt Shop. They shared various quilt blocks and made available some quilting items and kits.
