Calera blasts Rock Creek in County baseball

After spotting Rock Creek an early run, Calera exploded for eight tallies in the second inning and never looked back on the way to an 18-8 Bryan County baseball victory last week at home.

The Bulldogs pushed across five more runs in the third stanza as well as the fourth to end it early and give the pitching triumph to Hoff Weil, who scattered four runs on three hits and struck out three over three innings.

Rock Creek snagged the early lead with a first inning tally on a Kelton Teal solo home run in the first inning, but that advantage was short lived.

Calera got things rolling with back-to-back doubles from Zaiden Craige and Jaron Varner to start the second stanza with Lex Carlton, Hazyn Applegate, Gary Chaffin and Logan Bumgarner each notching a single before there were two outs. Craige doubled home two more and Carlton knocked in the final two of the frame with his second single.

The Mustangs answered with three runs of their own in the highscoring affair, cashing in a two-run single by Aaden Feltman and RBI double from Konnor Ribera.

Calera continued the barrage with Demarcus Dunn’s double plating two more in a five-run bottom of the frame. He also smacked a home run in the fourth stanza and finished with five runs batted in to lead the offensive charge.

Applegate racked up three hits and scored three times while Craige, Varner and Carlton each tacked on two hits.

Rock Creek had six hits, which included two homers from Teal who also drove in five of their eight runs. Kenneth Ashby, Feltman, Konnor Ribera and Ryder Ribera all had one hit.
