Following an early week loss to Class 4A third-ranked Silo, the Calera slow pitch softball team bounced back in a massive way with a perfect run through the rugged Caney Invitational last weekend.
Coach Randy Ellevold’s squad dispatched Hartshorne (7-3), Rock Creek (11-0), Rattan (5-3), Turner (15-7), Rattan again (17-15) as well as Tushka (14-10) to claim the tournament crown in impressive fashion.
Kaira Beller belted four home runs in the tournament, including a pair in the semi final triumph over Rattan as well as smacking two doubles as part of her three hits in the title tilt against Tushka.
Auhnesty Maytubby contributed seven hits with three of those leaving the park for home runs and Rilyn Teafatiller chipped in seven hits, including five doubles.
In the semifinal matchup, Calera rode eight unanswered tallies over the final two innings to erase a 15-9 deficit as they posted an 18-17 hitting edge.
The Lady Bulldogs trailed 9-4 through four innings of the finals before erupting with nine runs off eight singles in the fifth to take command.
Silo Softball
The Lady Rebels put the blitz on Calera while forging a 9-0 blanking to open the week’s action in dominant fashion.
Silo plated two runs in the first, four in the second, one in the fourth and eventually two in the sixth to end the game early on the run rule as they outslugged the Lady Bulldogs by a 13-3 count in total hits.
They got off to a blazing start as Neely House launched a solo home run and Paetyn Garrett doubled before scoring after a pair of Lady Bulldog errors.
The Lady Rebels continued the onslaught in the second stanza as Connie Tubby belted a three-run homer and House added another solo blast. House’s third solo home run of the game tacked on a run in the fourth and Tubby checked back in with a tworun roundtripper in the sixth. House finished with three homers and three RBI while Tubby contributed the two home runs and drove in five. Paislee Johnson notched three singles with a pair of hits coming from Garrett and one each by Jaci Webb, Kamrey Hendricks and Adri Standridge.
Caddo Softball
Class 3A’s top-ranked Caddo cruised through its first four contests before dropping a 21-17 verdict to third-rated Tushka in the Caney Tournament semifinals.
The Lady Bruins toppled Coalgate (9-6), Turner (7-1), Wilburton (15-2) and Hartshorne (12-0) while improving their record to 22-6 on the season.
Brylee Daniel doubled twice as part of her three hits and drove in three in the victory over Coalgate after Caddo built an 8-0 advantage.
Another solid performance followed facing Class 2A’s sixth-ranked Turner with Gage Vaughn leading the offensive charge with two hits, including a double, while driving in three runs.
Caddo needed only three innings to dispatch Wilburton on the run rule, capitalizing on eight walks and a teamleading two hits and two RBI from Audrey Hughes. Kayden Prince tripled and Braylee Malone chipped in a double.
The ball was flying all over the place in the Hartshorne decision with Daniel, Vaughn and Presley Beck smacking home runs while Hughes, Vaughn, Kayden Cowan and Prince tossed in triples.
The Lady Bruins scored at least twice in every inning against Tushka except the final one when they were held scoreless to result in the loss.
Beck blasted three hits, including a pair of homers, and drove in two runs while Prince also contributed a roundtripper.
