Name of man killed in officer involved shooting released

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation released the name of the man who was shot and killed by police near the Rock Creek baseball field in Bokchito last week.

He was identified as 46-year-old Teddy Kelsey.

The Bokchito Police Department requested OSBI assistance in the case. According to OSBI, Bokchito officers found Kelsey at about 6:45 p.m. April 13 walking along Impson Street and police determined that Kelsey had an arrest warrant through the Choctaw Tribal Courts.

OSBI said that when officers approached Kelsey, he brandished and fired a gun before fleeing on foot.

“Kelsey made his way to his residence near Ballpark Road and East Street,” OSBI said, in a news release. “A baseball game was occurring in that same area thus, the Bokchito Police Department, Choctaw Nation Lighthorse Police Department, and the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office assisted in securing the field.”

Bokchito Police and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol went to Kelsey’s residence and as offi cers approached, Kelsey again brandished a fi rearm and he was shot by a police offi cer, according to OSBI.

OSBI said medical personnel provided life-saving measures to Kelsey, however, he was pronounced deceased. There were no other injuries during the incident.

In a news release, Bokchito Police Chief Shane Guhl said the department is conducting an administrative investigation into the incident.

“I ask for the community’s patience as investigators gather all the facts,” Guhl said. “My thoughts are with everyone involved with this tragic event.”
