Choctaw Children and Family Services has kids fair

The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma Children and Family Services Kids Fair was May 2 at the Choctaw Event Center and there were many activities for children and information available for adults.

Kat Voorhees, foster care specialist for the Choctaw Nation, said it was a free event and that they were recognizing Child Abuse Awareness Month Foster Care Awareness Month Voorhees said there were many activities for all ages, including bounce houses, a toddler area, diaper derby, human slot machine and a cake walk.

Choctaw Children and Family Services works with state workers and the courts to ensure safe, stable and nurturing homes for Choctaw children, according to the tribe.

“We are always looking for foster parents, and we just serve our community by children who come into care, and we try to find the best families and the best fit for them,” Voorhees said.

After the event, Voorhees said they were grateful to everyone who came out and made the fair a success.

“With close to 600 attendees, the day was filled with laughter, connection, and so many special moments,” Voorhees said. “A heartfelt thank you to the Choctaw Nation leadership for your continued support, our amazing Kids Fair Committee for bringing this vision to life, and my wonderful CFS coworkers who always show up with passion and dedication.”

Voorhees said there was something for every child and family to enjoy at the kids fair.

“We also want to give a huge shout out to our special guests who helped make the day unforgettable: CNO Programs, Community Partners, Freedom Dodge, Achille Fire Department, Lighthorse Police, Lightning McQueen, and PAWSitively Wild Petting Zoo,” Voorhees said.
