On June 3, 2026, ten members of the Bryan County OHCE (Oklahoma Home and Community Education) met at the Kiamichi Technology Center’s Workforce Advancement in Durant. Miles, who is FCS Educator, Tommie James’ nephew and the Workforce & Economic Development Coordinator, Tori Culley Vasica were introduced.
The various committees rendered their reports. The one that is most necessary was the reminder about mot getting dehydrated during this very hot weather. A flyer was provided giving a number of sipping drinks that can be made to help with this.
A scholarship presentation will take place at the next executive meeting.
President Mary Knight related she hoped thepatriotic quilt would be ready by the end of June and she will show at our next meeting.
OHCE members will be assisting FCS Educator, Tommie James with her 4-H Summer Camp. The project will be how to do a “Busted Canvas.” Members volunteered to also provide some supplies needed. This will take place on July 16th, a Thursday from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. With an alternate day planned.
The upcoming State meeting will be held on July 12 through the 14th. Members were encouraged to attend. Members will also bring sewing items for the basket that will be assembled to be presented for the auction during the state meeting.
The five-county OHCE Summer Program will be on Tuesday, June 16th at 9:30am to 10:00 for check in at the Marshall County OSU Extension Office. The cost is $10:00 which includes snacks and home cleaning “make and take”. Following this presentation, members will tour the Madill First Baptist Church, which is the location of the 2027 Southeast District OHCE Meeting.
Following the adjournment of the Executive meeting, members were treated to a tour of the Kiamichi Workforce & Economic Development Center by Coordinator, Tori Vasica. She fielded questions regarding programs available and the goal and mission of the school. Members were greatly impressed with the presentation.
