Bokchito Police, sheriff ’s office respond to shooting

The Bokchito Police Department responded to a shooting Monday at 9151 State Road 22 near Bokchito, Police Chief Shane Guhl said, in a social media post.

Officers were dispatched at about 2:56 p.m. and when they arrived, they found a person who had an apparent gunshot wound.

“Officers immediately rendered emergency medical aid while securing the scene until additional law enforcement resources arrived,” Guhl said, in the social media post, adding that it was just outside of town limits, so the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office has jurisdiction.

The sheriff’s office requested the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to investigate the shooting.

“When law enforcement arrived on scene, they located an adult male, who had sustained injuries from an apparent gunshot wound,” OSBI said, in a news release. “Medical personnel provided life-saving measures to the male victim, who was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.”

OSBI said it learned during the investigation that 66-year-old Wyman McMillin had shot the man and that deputies, officers and troopers found McMillin and arrested him.

“Based on the information and evidence gathered, Mc-Millin was booked into the Bryan County Jail on complaints of assault and battery with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm after former conviction of a felony,” OSBI said. “This is still an ongoing investigation. The OSBI appreciates the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office, Bokchito Police Department, and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol for their continued assistance with this investigation.”
