Durant routs Ardmore in softball opener

The Durant Lady Lions erupted for nine runs in the first inning and junior Emma Sherrer fired a perfect game to spur a 12-0 rout of Ardmore in the fastpitch season opener Monday.

Sherrer struck out five and did not allow a base runner in the dominant pitching outing over the Lady Tigers as Durant improved to 1-0 going into the rugged Broken Arrow Tournament this weekend.

Coach Jimmie Wyrick’s troops wasted little time in their half of the first stanza as Anslee Morse and Allee Cooper started the frame with singles. Kenzie Trotter chipped in a two-run single sandwiched between a pair of Ardmore errors as well as two walks.

Cooper recorded her second hit of the inning with a single that plated two with Korbyn Robinson following with a two-run double as well.

Sherrer provided the offensive spark for Durant in the second, belting a one-out double to rightfield. Trotter singled to plate another run while Alli Pratt and Kinsley Odom added hits before the frame was over to wrap up the scoring.

Trotter tallied two hits and three RBI with Cooper contributing two hits and a pair batted in. Morse, Robinson, Sherrer, Pratt and Odom each pitched in one hit. Robinson knocked in three while Odom was credited with two RBI.
