Rock Creek exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 9-9 deadlock and outlasted Bennington, 18-9, in Bryan County baseball action last week.
Neither team could gain much of an edge in the backand- forth affair with Rock Creek going scoreless in only one inning and Bennington in two frames. The Mustangs, however, made the most of nine hits while overcoming five errors.
In the final flurry, Rock Creek got things rolling with a Jarret Barfield double in front of seven consecutive free passes. A groundout, walk, error and passed ball helped finish it off on the run rule before the Bears ever got to hit again.
Cyden Stevens, Reuben Venegas and Barfield all combined on the mound in the Mustangs’ victory, scattering seven hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.
Barfield was the offensive spark plug for Rock Creek, smacking a pair of doubles as part of his three hits in the contest. Stevens chipped in two hits, including a double. Brylan Watts also added a double and ended with four RBI.
J.W. Edelen, Aaden Feltman and Ryder Ribera all posted one hit as well.
For Bennington, Benson led the way with two hits.
