Voters approved a $785,000 bond proposition for Rock Creek Schools that will fund security improvements, remodel school buildings plus obtain fixtures and furniture.

In the April 2 election, the proposition passed by 63.55 percent, 333 votes, compared to 36.45 percent, 191 votes, opposed, according to election returns released by the Bryan County Election Board.

This was the second time for this proposition and it just barely failed in the Sept. 12 election which received 59.50 percent in favor of it. School bonds require a 60 percent “super majority.”

The bonds will have an interest rate not to exceed 10 percent per annum and become due within 10 years.

Rock Creek Superintendent Rob Frederick thanked the community for its support.

“Passing a bond is a complete team effort and I am so proud of our community,” Frederick said, in a statement.

He said the bond will allow the school to improve security and do things the district would not have been able to do without the resources plus it symbolizes a change in the culture of the Rock Creek community.

“This represents an alignment of a vision; a vision that has to be shared between the school and the community,” Frederick said. “I truly believe that where there is no vision, the people perish. The vision we have for our school is to be the best and for that to happen, the community has to pour resources into our greatest resource, our children.”

In other elections, Matt Tarr defeated Bryce Segotta in a runoff election for office No. 4 on the Bennington Board of Education.

Tarr received 56.72 percent, 76 votes, while Segotta garnered 58 votes, 43.28 percent.
