The Achille Eagles rode a monster fifth inning offensive explosion to a 14-8 fall baseball win over Rock Creek in the regular season finale last week.
Canten Young’s first inning RBI single put Achille in front before the Mustangs came storming back with seven straight runs, including a five-run burst in the second frame alone. Blaine Stanford provided the run-scoring double that gave Rock Creek the lead ahead of a Holden Pair two RBI double as well.
Down 7-1, Achille’s comeback began with four tallies in the fourth stanza that all came via a grand slam home run off the bat of Landen Worthington. Creighton Hamilton and Parker Crenshaw had singled prior to a hit batter with two outs.
Rock Creek got one of those runs back in its half of the fifth, loading the bases with Brylan Watts and Cyden Stevens singles sandwiched around a walk. Braiden Dophied then drew another free pass to force in the run.
Coach Brady Benedict’s Eagles responded in emphatic fashion, batting all the way through the order and shut out Rock Creek the rest of the way. Five free passes played a major part but Jacob Clark, Crenshaw and Worthington tossed in singles along with a Young two-out run-scoring double as well as a Hamilton two-bagger that plated a pair.
Clark slammed the door on any hope of a Mustangs’ rally, firing two and one-third shutout frames of relief as he scattered three hits, struck out three and walked two in earning the pitching win.
Young paced the offensive charge for Achille with a perfect four for four outing that included two doubles and two batted in. Crenshaw tallied three hits as Worthington ended with a pair of hits and five RBI. Hamilton also notched two hits with one apiece from Joshua Williams and Clark.
Rock Creek was led by Ryder Ribera with three hits, including a double and two driven in. Stevens and Stanford posted two hits each with Jaxon Whitaker, Aaden Feltman, Pair and Brylan Watts all contributing one.
