Area roundup: Silo romps to Tupelo tourney title

Outscoring three foes by a whopping 51-9 margin, the Silo Rebels remained unbeaten on the season last week with a romp to the Tupelo Tournament championship.

Coach Eddie Jeffcoat’s club smacked Moss, 14-4, in round one and then blasted Latta in a 19-4 run rule in the semifinals. The Rebels then closed with an 18-1 thumping of tournament host Tupelo to improve to 5-0 on the young season.

In the tournament opener, Silo utilized a pair of home runs from sophomore Jake Langley as they pounded out 11 hits while scoring in all but one of the five innings.

Lady Rebels runner-up at Rock Creek

The Lady Rebels smashed Hugo, 12-0, keyed by Connie Tubby’s three hits, including a home run, and four batted in. Neely House checked in with a pair of hits.

Coach Mike Lawless’ squad then rallied by Allen, 5-2, cashing in a stellar pitching effort from Timber Hensley, who settled in and allowed just one earned run on three hits and struck out six for the complete game win.

They followed with an 11-1 blasting of Rattan, racing to a 10-0 edge through two stanzas and never looked back. Tubby homered again and drove in three with Trinity Ford chipping in two hits.

Silo couldn’t get much going in a 2-0 extra inning loss to Tushka but fought back through the loser’s bracket by eliminating Healdton, 5-2.

Kamrey Hendricks was the winning pitcher, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits through nearly five full innings. Hensley added two hits, including a double, and drove in a run to pace the Silo offense.

Caddo splits in rugged Murray festival

Class A top-ranked Caddo dropped a pair of narrow 1-0 verdicts to powerhouses Dale and Pocola but answered with strong wins against Howe (8-0) and Dickson (5-1), in the Annual Murray State Festival.

Facing Howe, Lyndee Harless had a monster performance by driving in five runs with a pair of key singles. L.B. Smothers worked all five in- nings in the pitching circle, scattering four hits with two strikeouts.

The Dickson victory saw the combination of Smothers and Brylee Daniel combined to allow only four hits with four strikeouts.

Daniel and Kayden Prince each doubled for the Lady Bruins as Jaycie Nichols added two hits and two batted in.

Runs were tough to come by in each of the two defeats as Rylan Peevyhouse was outstanding in the pitching circle despite taking both losses. She yielded only three hits and one unearned run against Dale while both Jaycie and Jordyn Nichols had two hits offensively.

Peevyhouse only gave up three hits to Pocola but was the tough luck losing hurler in the bottom of the seventh.

Colbert baseball wins own tourney

Bouncing back from an early week defeat, Colbert rolled to its own tournament championship by smacking Haworth (13-0) and Rock Creek (13-0) before dispatching Caney, 9-6, in the title tilt.

The Leopards plated 11 runs in the first inning against Haworth and never looked back while cashing in nine free passes.

Against Rock Creek, Colbert got off to another fast start by scoring two in the first, six in the second and five runs in the third to end it early.

Freshman Jace Beaver twirled a no hitter, striking out five and walking two.

Remington Graham, Kaden Neill and Eric Hokett notched two hits apiece to spark the Leopard offense.

It was Graham that was the offensive catalyst against Caney in the championship as he blasted a home run as part of his two hits and drove in five runs. Neill, Brett Parsons and Hudson Brigman all had one hit and one RBI.
