The unbeaten Caddo Bruins took advantage of their scheduled bye week to heal a few bumps and bruises while also looking forward to the stretch run of the season.
Coach Jeff Wigington’s squad continues its homestand with Homecoming on Friday when Snyder comes to town for the final nondistrict matchup of the year.
“We had a good week of practice, were able to focus on us and work on some things we wanted to get put in for further down the road,” Wigington commented. “We were able to heal some bumps and bruises and got just about everybody back in pretty good shape.
We are as healthy as we’ve been since the first game of the year so the bye week came at a really good time.
“There’s obviously some Homecoming distractions this week, but we are a very experienced team that should know how to deal with those things.”
Snyder, meanwhile, is a perennial playoff team, including a year ago, but the Cyclones have been struggling with injuries through the early portion of the schedule during a 1-3 start.
The Cyclones were blasted by Class B Division 2 state ranked Cyril, 50-0, last week but according to reports are slated to get several players back for Friday, including their top defender.
“They have been dealing with several things and missing players so they have been forced to play a different style,” Wigington said. “Word is they are going to get guys back this week which will force us to prepare for multiple defensive fronts. That’s been our challenge this week to try and make it as easy as possible on our offensive line. I’m not sure exactly what they are going to do defensively.
“It doesn’t change what we are going to do though. We’ll just have to see how they are going to defend us and adjust to it on the fly.”
The Bruins will be looking to continue their early surge and try to head into Class B1 District 4 play on a strong note as a huge battle with unbeaten Quinton sits on the horizon for next week.
Quinton has allowed a total of 34 points in five games this season and will have an extra week to prepare with the Savages’ bye this week.
“We knew after playing Quinton last year they were extremely young and I was expecting them to be a lot better this year,” Wigington added. “That game will definitely be a challenge to start district. They have been putting up a lot of points and holding people down.”
