Missouri bull rider Creek Young scored an 84-point ride on the bull Wagon Bru to claim the top money prize of $3,638 to cap last week’s 84th Durant PRCA Rodeo at the Riding Club Arena.
The 24-year-old cowboy posted one of only three successful rides in the two-day event as the bulls dominated the feature competition. Caden Bunch and Gavin Mitchell tied for second place with 83-point rides and claimed $2,729 apiece.
In total, the event payoff was $58,820.
The team roping duo of Dustin Egusquiza and J.C. Flake took home $2,011 of that each as they clocked in with a blazing 3.3 seconds for the win. Colby Siddoway and Josh Patton grabbed $1,748 apiece as they took second place in 4.4 seconds with Roan Oldfield and Jeryn Ellerd teaming for a mark of 4.7 seconds for third place and $1,486 each.
Barrel racing had a solid payout as well with Ivy Saebens earning $1,863 with a winning time of 15.90 seconds. Lauren England topped a very close race for second with a time of 16.02 seconds for $1,597. Makenzie Mayes was third at 16.03 seconds for $1,331 and Shelley Morgan also had a nice payday with $1,154 for fourth place in 16.04 seconds.
The top four finishers in steer wrestling also took home over $1,000 paydays led by the winning effort from Gary Gilbert, who clocked in at 4.0 seconds even for $1,686.
Jay Williamson ended second in 4.3 seconds for a tally of $1,466, Jake Shelton was third with a mark of 4.5 seconds to capture $1,246 and Garrett Oates ended fourth with a time of 4.6 seconds to snag $1,026.
Tie-down roping honors went to Travis Staley as he won the event in 8.6 seconds to take home $1,697. Denton Oestmann was just behind with an 8.8 for $1,404 and Jarvis Demery took third at 8.9 to also win $1,112.
In saddle bronc, Cooper Lane went the distance on the bronc named Red One to pick up 83.5 points and win the $1,415 top prize. Jacobs Crawley was just behind with an 83-point ride for $1,072.
Jackson Lunn was the bareback riding champ, as he racked up 85 points by riding Chosen One for all eight seconds and in the process claimed the $1,079 top award.
Jake Shelton from Krum, Texas was the rodeo’s top All-Around Cowboy with solid runs in tie-down roping and steer wrestling to take home the $1,246 all-around prize money.
