Caddo Bruins cruise by Savanna for 7th straight win

After yielding a trick play touchdown on the game’s opening play from scrimmage, the Caddo Bruins put the clamps on defensively and reeled off eight straight touchdowns to blast Savanna, 55-8, and remain unbeaten.

Now 7-0 on the season, the Bruins will have a chance to virtually wrap up an opening round home playoff contest when they continue a three-game road swing at Keota.

“They kind of surprised us with a reverse pass on the very first play but we settled in after that and put the clamps on them,” head coach Jeff Wigington commented. “I don’t think we allowed another first down until late in the second period. We were scoring fast and didn’t have an opportunity to run many offensive plays. It seemed the first quarter lasted quite a while. We executed well and didn’t turn the ball over.”

Caddo answered the opening score in only a couple plays as Cale Wigington hooked up with Bayler Black on a 45-yard catch and run.

In total the Bruins were ultraefficient offensively, tallying 251 yards on 15 snaps of the ball.

Cale Wigington completed all four of his pass attempts for 124 yards with one of those coming on a 60-yard scoring strike to Jake McKay. McKay also ran back a punt for a touchdown.

The Bruin signal caller also ran just twice for 48 yards with one of those going for a touchdown. Black had seven totes for 39 yards along with Noah Carvel adding two runs for 40 yards.

Defensively, Caddo was stellar once more with six players tallying double figure tackle totals. Noah Dry led that charge with 16 stops as Black and McKay notched 10 apiece.

“Keota lost a lot of seniors last year and are extremely young in a lot of spots,” Coach Wigington added. “They will get in multiple formations and that’s a definite challenge. We have to read keys and not get in a hurry. On offense we just have to keep doing what we’ve been doing, avoid turnovers and be efficient.”
