University of Texas commit Jaycie Nichols had a huge outing as Caddo jumped to a big lead and never looked back for a 14-3 victory over Calera in an early Bryan County fastpitch showdown last week.
Nichols opened the Caddo half of the first inning with a double as part of her three hits in the contest, which also included a triple, while scoring twice and driving in two for the Lady Bruins.
Calera snagged an early edge with a run in the top of the opening frame after hits by Taylynn Conder and Augnesty Maytubby but that advantage was short lived to say the least.
Coach Dustin McKay’s club countered with four runs to take command, taking the lead for good on a bases loaded double from Rylan Peevyhouse.
The Lady Bulldogs worked a couple of hits from Jeslyn O’Dell and Taibree Melton to narrow the gap to 4-3, but that was as close as they would come as Caddo poured it on with 10 unanswered tallies to close the run-rule verdict in four innings.
Nichols was the catalyst once more for a four-run second inning by leading off the frame with a smashing triple. Presley Beck contributed a two RBI double just two batters later as Calera struggled to find a defensive answer.
Following a scoreless pitching frame by Peevyhouse in the third, the Lady Bruins put the contest completely on ice as they notched four straight hits in their half of the inning on the way to a six-run uprising.
Peevyhouse was the winning hurler, allowing three runs (two earned) and scattering four hits with two strikeouts and three walks.
Lyndee Harless, Beck, Peevyhouse and Brylee Daniel all posted two hits for Caddo with Jordyn Nichols and Kayden Cowan each adding one.
Maytubby, Conder, Melton and O’Dell had one apiece for Calera.
