The eighth-rated Caddo Bruin baseball team returned to the state tournament for the first time since 2023 last week by sweeping to the Class A-1 regional championship.
Caddo blanked Southwest Covenant, 2-0, and Cheyenne/Reydon by a 13-0 count before an 11-4 triumph over Drummond in the title tilt as the Bruins improved to 22-6 on the season.
Junior Kale Brister got the start and went the distance on the mound in the regional opener, scattering four hits. He struck out 10 and walked just two in a stellar outing.
The Bruin offense pushed across both runs in the fourth inning, making the most of a leadoff single by Jake Green as they were aided by four free passes and a Patriot error.
Green and Boen Proctor each had two of Caddo’s five hits in the contest. Bayler Black doubled as well.
Jake Mullens and Jett Rose turned in the tremendous pitching effort in game two, combining on a one-hit shutout that included four strikeouts and three walks.
Caddo’s offense ignited for 11 runs in the first two stanzas and never looked back on the way to the run rule. Green posted three of the hits and knocked in two runs. Jake McKay had two hits and two RBI with Cale Wigington, Mullens and Rance Richardson tossing in doubles.
The Bruins were forced to erase a 3-2 Drummond lead after two frames of the opener with a balanced attack up and down the lineup. Green and McKay each notched a double as part of their three hits apiece. Wigington also doubled and checked in with two hits. Black, Jase Counce, Brister and Proctor all had one hit apiece.
Silo Baseball
After pulling out a 4-1 win over Kansas in the Class 3A Regional opener, the Silo Rebels turned on the jets with a pair of romps over Dewey to claim the title en route to a 27-5 record for the season.
Coach Eddie Jeffcoat’s Rebels were slated to host Beggs in the best-ofthree Super Regional series late this week for a berth in the state tournament.
Silo rode the bat of senior Jeret House to the opening win as the Rebel stalwart drove in all four runs against Kansas while going a perfect three for three at the plate. Zane Sander added two hits and scored twice for the Rebels with one hit apiece from Landon Langley and Braden Hill.
Langley twirled a seven-inning complete game, yielding one run on eight hits coupled with eight strikeouts and one walk.
The Rebels followed with a 10-0 blitzing of Dewey as seniors Gabe Hernandez and Hill teamed for a four-hit shutout, fanning a pair and walking one.
Silo raced to an 8-0 lead through two innings and never looked back, cashing in a Bryce Vandenburg two-run homer.
Vandenburg notched a pair of hits along with Sander and Langley. House, Hill, Sam Mendenall, Nolan Northcott and Aiden Mc-Carty contributed one hit each.
Forced to move the regional championship to the turf of Grayson County College, the Rebels had little trouble in dispatching Dewey once again by a 9-1 count.
McCarty was outstanding in six innings on the mound, allowing a run on four hits, fanning four and walking none. Northcott added one frame of one-hit scoreless relief.
Silo scored four times in the second inning, two in the third, two in the fifth and one in the sixth to pull away.
Vandenburg and Mendenall ended with two hits apiece and Mendenall drove in two. Sander and Lander posted one hit and two RBI each with House, Hill and Jory Allen all adding a hit.
