Caddo and Silo girls each posted victories in highly-ranked showdowns on the way to sweeps last week while Calera split a pair of road tilts.
In a battle of number one ranked foes, the Caddo Lady Bruins rolled past Red Oak, 59-40, to remain unbeaten while the second-rated Bruins had no trouble in an 86-26 triumph.
Ranked 13th in Class 3A, Silo’s Lady Rebels posted a 53-50 overtime win over seventh-rated Bethel with the Rebels making it a sweep with a 68-54 victory in the nightcap.
Calera, meanwhile, went on the road to split matchups with Marietta as the Bulldogs won 62-44 with the girls falling 41-22.
Caddo
What was expected to be a tight con- test turned Caddo’s way from the start as the visiting Lady Bruins got opening buckets from Kayden Prince and Brilee Tyson while building a 14-9 advantage through one frame.
Caddo pushed that margin to 25-17 at the half and 41-30 through three as they won each quarter while shooting a blazing 57 percent from the field.
Prince was the catalyst with 23 points on 11 of 18 shooting while adding six rebounds and five steals. Belle Hookom pitched in 15 points and six rebounds also with Emma Daniel notching 12 points, four assists and three steals. Tyson finished with six points and Harlee Taylor scored three.
The Bruins’ pressure defense proved tenacious throughout by forcing 31 Red Oak turnovers, many of which were converted to points.
Caddo held a 22-5 lead through one quarter and that cushion ballooned with a massive 32-point second stanza to 54-9 at intermission. It was a 74-15 edge through three frames.
Five Bruins posted double figures led by Corbin Stoner’s 14 points on seven of eight shooting. Jet Rose and Ezra Melton added 12 apiece, Beck Willingham scored 11 and Dallas Williams had 10.
Kaleb Brister tallied just two points but dished out 10 assists and also had eight steals.
Silo
Freshman Mia Goodlow scored five straight points to open the fourth quarter and help rally the Lady Rebels from an eight point deficit in the upset of seventh ranked Bethel. Goodlow also drained a three pointer in overtime that put the Lady Rebels ahead to stay while finishing with 10 points on the night.
Silo trailed 10-4 after one quarter before narrowing the gap to 23-21 at intermission. Bethel led 39-31 going into the final stanza.
Kynleigh Pierce led the scoring with 13 points and six rebounds with Kamrey Hendricks posting a doubledouble with 11 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Olivia Clark and Brooklynn Redwine notched seven apiece as Paislee Johnson scored three and Connie Tubby tallied two.
Silo went in front early in the boys’ contest and gradually extended the margin, getting a monster performance from junior Blane Beauchamp off the bench as he knocked down four three pointers and contributed a career high 22 points along with five rebounds.
Hayden Roberts narrowly missed a double-double as he tied a career high with 21 points and yanked down nine rebounds. Cash Danker also reached double figures with 12 points, Zane Sander tossed in six, Sam Mendenall had five and Kason Proctor added a pair.
Calera
A strong third quarter propelled the Lady Bulldogs to a 19-15 second half scoring advantage but it wasn’t nearly enough to offset an ice cold first two periods in which they managed only three points. It was a 14-0 Marietta lead through one stanza and 26-3 at intermission.
Tatum Buck pumped in three treys in a 13-point third frame and finished with a team-best 10 points. Karson Young added four, Savannah Mallard scored three with Harlie Gardner and Kendell McKinney notching two apiece.
For two periods the boys contest was fairly tight with Calera edging to a 14-12 advantage through one frame and extending that to 29-22 at intermission.
The Bulldogs broke it wide open with an 18-9 burst in the third quarter to pull away.
Logan Bumgarner tallied 20 points to pace three double digit scorers with Talon Rose and Gavin Chaffin adding 11 apiece.
Zaiden Craige and Eason Humphers each posted six points, Jake Daniel had three with Hoff Weil contributing two and Xavier Mallard one.
