Four-time defending state champ Caddo didn’t look to miss much of a beat in starting the season with a 5-0 record, including a 12-0 blanking of county rival Rock Creek.
Still breaking in a host of new starters, the top-ranked team in Class A ran into a slew of strong opponents last weekend in the Murray State Festival however and dropped three of four outings.
In the shutout of Rock Creek the Lady Bruins got off to a tremendous start and never looked back while riding a complete game twohit pitching shutout from Harlee Taylor in the run rule decision. She struck out seven and walked nobody.
The Lady Bruins plated two runs in the first inning to get rolling and followed with a seven- run outburst in the second frame keyed by a two-run triple off the bat of Kayden Cowan as well as an RBI double by Braylee Malone.
Caddo pushed across another three runs in the third stanza to end it early on the rule with a run-scoring triple by Brylee Daniel. Cowan wrapped up with a pair of triples to lead the charge.
Rock Creek’s hits came from Jeslyn O’Dell and Audrey Skinner.
Coach Dustin McKay’s club forged solid 3-2 triumphs against Caney and Byng before the losses to Oktaha (8-3), Pocola (4-3) and Silo (6-1).
Caddo found the offense tough to come by in the Silo setback as Lady Rebel hurler Brylee Smothers fired a complete game one-hitter that included one strikeout and two walks.
The Lady Bruins utilized an early hit from Daniel to claim a 1-0 lead before Silo came storming back with single runs in the second and fourth frames as well as two tallies in the third and fifth innings.
Silo racked up 12 hits in the contest which went five innings before the time limit as Trinity Ford, Neely House and Paetyn Garrett tossed in two hits apiece. Connie Tubby, Maddix Sander and Paislee Johnson all doubled.
