In All-Bryan County showdowns for Class A regional championships, Caddo outdueled Rock Creek to sweep to the crowns and within one victory this week to return to state.
The top-ranked Lady Bruins shook off a sluggish start to dominate the glass on the way to a 69-48 triumph in the girls contest against the 17th rated Lady Mustangs.
Caddo rode big second and third quarters in the boys’ tilt as the second-ranked Bruins pulled away for a 68-37 decision over the Mustangs, who finished the regular season ranked 20th.
All four teams will look to continue their seasons in area tournament action this week at Wilburton with Caddo slated to meet Allen on Friday night for area crowns.
Caddo 69, Rock Creek 48 (girls)
Rock Creek couldn’t have envisioned a much better start with an 18-11 edge through one period behind eight big points from Carlaysia Brown.
That advantage began to turn in the second stanza as Caddo took a 28-26 halftime lead and extended it even more after the break thanks largely to a 47-26 edge in rebounds.
Kayden Prince and Belle Hookom each poured in a double-double as Prince finished with 26 points and 10 rebounds while Hookom added 15 points and 12 boards.
Harlee Taylor posted 12 points, Emma Daniel had seven, Brilee Tyson contributed five and Kiersyn Powell notched four.
Rock Creek was fueled by the one-two punch of Ella Hamill and Brown, who tossed in 17 and 14 points respectively. Audrey Knight scored seven, Maddie Williams tallied six and Jeslyn Odell had four.
Caddo 68, Rock Creek 37 (boys)
The Mustangs held their own in the opening stanza, trailing just 14-9, but Caddo came alive with a 17-6 blitz in the second period to take control and never looked back. The Bruins were in front 31-15 at intermission and 51-25 going into the final frame.
Balance was the story offensively for Caddo as seven players all tallied between five and 15 points paced by Beck Willingham’s 15.
Corbin Stoner chipped in 10, Kale Brister had nine, Jett Rose scored eight, Ezra Melton contributed seven, Dallas Williams connected for six, Carson Robinson pitched in five, Jake McKay added four while Noah Bacon and Bayler Black had two apiece.
Sophomore Cameron Brown was the Rock Creek catalyst with 12 points along with eight from B.J. Lyles. J.W. Edelen and Kelton Teal scored six apiece, Brayden Phillips had three and Jarret Barfield added two.
Caddo 79, Canadian 35 (girls)
The Lady Bruins forced 26 turnovers in the regional opener and put it in cruise control after building a commanding 29-10 first quarter cushion.
It was 44-16 at intermission and 67-25 going into the fourth.
Prince and Hookom both erupted for 25 points as Daniel scored nine and Taylor had six.
Rock Creek 61, Porum 43 (girls)
Rock Creek advanced to the regional title tilt with a dominant first stanza in which Carlaysia Brown erupted for 11 of her team’s total while grabbing the 17-4 lead.
Porum narrowed the gap to 42-35 heading to the fourth when the Lady Mustangs kicked it into gear and pulled away.
Brown had a monster 27-point scoring effort as Hamill and Knight also ended in double digits with 11 apiece.
Caddo 99, Weleetka 36 (boys)
It was all Caddo from the start as the Bruins reeled off 27 points in the first frame, 30 more in the second and 26 in the third. Just for good measure they fired a 16-0 shutout in the fourth period.
For the game, the Bruin defensive pressure forced 27 turnovers.
Willingham sparked four double figure scorers with 24 points. Brister contributed 17, Stoner had 13 and Williams checked in with 10. Jake McKay scored nine, Jet Rose had eight and Carson Robinson finished with six points.
Rock Creek 42, Liberty 33 (boys)
It was neck-and-neck following a dead even 13-13 first quarter but Cameron Brown tallied eight of the Mustangs’ 10 second quarter points as they tossed a 10-0 shutout to claim a double digit lead.
Brown had a balanced contest with 17 points with Kelton Teal adding a big game as well with 14 points.
