Calera erupts offensively, cruises by Rock Creek

Calera exploded for seven runs in the second inning to break open a tight contest and cruised past Rock Creek, 12-4, in Bryan County slow pitch action last week.

The host Lady Bulldogs scored three times in the opening frame fueled by a Rilyn Teafatiller double before Rock Creek answered with three tallies of its own to tie the game in the top of the second. A pair of walks sandwiched around a Mahlia Venegas single loaded the bases for a key Maddie Williams double.

Coach Randy Ellevold’s squad responded with six hits in the second to take command as Auhnesty Maytubby provided the biggest blow on a triple to right. Chanah Palmer, Aaliyah Bussard, Kaira Beller, Tori Allmon and Makenna Owens each singled and the Lady Bulldogs also capitalized on two Rock Creek errors.

Rock Creek got one run back in the third as Jeslyn O’Dell singled and scored on a Calera miscue but that proved to be the final Lady Mustang tally of the game. Aaliyah Wesley and Teafatiller notched RBI hits in the fourth to cap the scoring and set up the run rule.

Calera notched 12 hits, three of which came from Maytubby along with three runs scored. Teafatiller and Beller had two hits and two RBI apiece while Wesley notched a hit and three batted in. Allmon, Owens, Palmer and Bussard also ended with one hit.

Williams led the way with three hits and two driven in for Rock Creek. O’Dell tallied a pair of hits with one each from Venegas, Attisyn Knight, Emma Gann, Sadie Cress and Ana Ojeda.
