Calera, Silo split in area contests

Calera and Silo split basketball outings with Tishomingo and Sulphur respectively last week.

The Bulldogs were 47-32 victors in their contest with visiting Tishomingo while the Lady Bulldogs fell 44-26.

Silo, meanwhile, scored a 48-31 win at Sulphur in girls action as the Rebels dropped a 72-49 verdict.

Calera Basketball

Calera girls trailed only 13-9 through one period but a 12-2 burst by Tishomingo in the second frame put it virtually out of reach.

Tatum Buck connected for 11 points in fueling the Lady Bulldog scoring. Harlie Gardner tallied six, Karson Young and Emilee Summit scored four apiece with Jaedyn Umsted adding a point.

In the boys’ contest the Bulldogs utilized a plethora of three pointers as Calera buried nine from long range which proved decisive.

The Bulldogs were up 12-6 through one stanza, 22-16 at halftime and 32-28 heading to the fourth when they pulled away with a 17-4 flurry.

Logan Bumgarner sank three of the treys and posted 16 points with Zaiden Craige also tossing in 16, which included a pair of three pointers. Gavin Chaffin drained four of the treys and also hit double figures with 13. Xavier Mallard and Jake Daniel had two points each.

Silo Basketball

A slow start for the Lady Rebels accounted for only one field goal in the game’s first six minutes but they still managed a 9-4 edge after the first stanza and pulled away to a 2511 edge at the break thanks to a trio of Brooklynn Redwine treys.

Twelfth ranked Silo cruised home from there to notch its 10th victory.

Redwine poured in a career high 17 points, sinking a total of five three pointers. They also got seven points apiece from Kynleigh Pierce and Olivia Clark. Kamrey Hendricks and Parri Garrett both added four with Connie Tubby, Mia Goodlow and Xaleigh Austin all notching three points.

Silo led 22-20 at intermission following a big second stanza in the boys contest but the Bulldog athleticism took control after the half while outpointing the Rebels 52-27.

Cash Danker led the Rebels with 15 points as Sam Mendenall also hit double figures with 12. Hayden Roberts and Blane Beauchamp contributed seven apiece.
