Calera head baseball coach Rickey Teafatiller recorded his 700th career victory the Class 2A sixth-ranked Bulldogs remained unbeaten last week with a pair of impressive shutouts.

The Bulldogs blanked Tushka, 1-0, in a battle of Top 10 teams and then rolled past Marietta by an 8-0 count in its final action of the week.

In the Tushka victory, the Bulldogs rode a spectacular pitching effort from Jaron Smith as he twirled a complete game two-hit shutout to give the Class A second-rated Tigers their first loss of the season. He struck out four and walked four.

Smith also had the only Calera hit in the contest with a leadoff double in the fourth that led to the only run of the game after two walks and a passed ball.

Ryan Dunn got the pitching call against Marietta and tossed a threehit shutout, striking out six in the process.

The Bulldogs made the most of four hits, capitalizing on nine walks. Smith and Devan Walton each had a double while Dunn helped his own cause with a hit and two RBI. Logan Bumgarner also chipped in a hit.

Caddo Softball

The top-ranked Lady Bruins got their season off and running with an 11-1 triumph over Dickson before toppling perennial power Kiowa, 5-1. Caddo pounded out 14 hits in the Dickson win, scoring in all but one frame of the run rule decision.

Kadey McKay led the charge with a pair of home runs and a double to drive in six. Rylan Peevyhouse tossed in three hits and two RBI as well. Jaycie Nichols and Presley Beck both had two hits.

Against Kiowa, the Lady Bruins trailed 1-0 in the third inning before erupting with five runs to take command.

Jaycie Nichols and Peevyhouse singled ahead of a McKay three-run homer. Timber Hensley also singled before Beck belted a two-run bomb for the final margin.

Nichols and McKay wrapped up with three hits apiece as Beck tallied a pair.

Caddo Baseball

The eighth-ranked Bruins bounced back from a 7-3 loss to number two Tushka to blast Stuart, 12-4, in the weekend finale on Saturday.

Four errors proved costly for Caddo in the Tushka defeat, leading to three unearned runs.

The Bruins trailed 4-0 early but responded with a run in the second frame on a Boen Proctor sacrifice fly and two more in the third after Jake Green singled and Carson Culbreath belted a two-run homer.

That’s all Caddo could put on the board, however, and the Tigers notched three in the seventh to finish it off.

Culbreath and Green each had two hits with Ryder Wingfield and Proctor adding one apiece.

Offense was much more plentiful for Caddo against Stuart as the Bruins scored runs in all but one inning on the way to the run rule win.

The Bruins pushed across one in the first, one in the third, three in the fourth and four runs in the fifth to take a commanding 9-0 advantage.

That was all the support that Jake Mullens needed as he worked four and one-third frames on the mound, yielding three runs on two hits with six strikeouts.

Caddo racked up 11 hits with Culbreath, Green, Wingfield and Mullens each contributing two of those. Culbreath and Coltin Speers also drove in two apiece.
