Testing their mettle against many of the top runners in the state, the Durant High School cross country squads had several solid showings in the Annual Pre-State event last Saturday at Edmond Santa Fe.
The Lady Lions and Lions each posted 11th place team efforts in the Class 5A standings while both ran on the 5K course.
Avery Sager led the pack for the Durant girls with medalist time of 20 minutes, 47.40 seconds while claiming fifth place.
Laynee Emert checked in 42nd in 23:26.48, Kamryn Brooks took 64th with a personal best 24:53.54, Katelyn Hitchcock posted a 65th place mark of 25:04.29, Kyah French ended 69th at 25:18.21 with Grace Morrison clocking in with a 25:18.97 for 70th in the 94-runner field.
In the junior varsity division, Rozlyn Brumley sparked the Lady Lions with a 25:59.88 for 13th place. Alexi Powell added a 42nd in 30:15.51 while Kennedy Ervin rounded things out in 59th with a mark of 36:44.79.
On the boys’ side it was K.J. Lowery fueling the Durant charge with a 10th place individual medalist mark of 17 minutes, 30.5 seconds.
Zach Ervin crossed the stripe in 19:22.21 for 46th place, Chris Becerra ended in 19:29.62 for 51st, Hudson Phillips placed 76th with a 21:03.41, Cameron Mauck added a personal best 21:22.35 for 77th and Kyric Lehrling also ran a personal best 21:34.80 in placing 80th.
In the JV boys category, the Lions were led by Isaiah Hall with a 21:59.56 to take 59th as Blake Rhynes was just a bit behind him at 22:22.75 for 67th place.
Other Durant finishers included Jacoby Briggle, 94th (23:57.33); Kevin Vazquez, 103rd (24:25.43); Ivan Becerra, 114th (25:09.86); Kolson Gordon, 116th (25:21.98); Daniel DeLaCruz, 126th (25:56.50); Kyndal Arnold, 137th (26:41.31); Rafael Cruz, 152nd (29:15.46); Abraham Reyna, 156th (31:34.24); and Steven Solana, 160th (32:16.85).
