DHS girl golfers reach 13th straight state tourney

The Durant Lady Lions notched a team score of 387 to take fifth in the Class 5A Regional golf tournament at Oak Hills Golf & Country Club in Ada last week and earn a 13th straight trip to the state tournament.

Duncan edged host Ada by 13 strokes to take the team championship. Lawton MacArthur took third and El Reno fourth, just four shots in front of the Lady Lions.

Durant moves on and will play in the 5A State Tournament on Monday and Tuesday at Lincoln Park West in Oklahoma City.

Senior Addison Harkey carded an 87 to medal in a tie for fifth place individually.

The Lady Lions had three golfers within two strokes of each behind her as junior Kenli Rowland notched a 99 in tying for 18th, junior Annie Miller tallied a 100 to tie for 22nd while senior Kinsley James scored a 101 to finish in a 25th place tie.

Sophomore Bailey Vojta rounded out the Durant total by carding a 108 in tying for 41st.

The Lady Lions have had a successful year by winning five tournaments as well as racking up many individual awards.

“This group has a ton of chemistry and gets along so well,” head coach Tanner Dupree stated. “This season has had its ups and downs but, in the end, the girls continue to carry on the traditions of our program. They are motivated and working toward a great finish at state next week.”
