It was another successful home track meet for the Durant High Track and Field squad as the girls placed fourth and the boys seventh in the very rugged 17-team field last week.
Both squads will be right back in action this week when they take part in the Ardmore Invitational Meet on Friday starting at 9:30 a.m.
Gold medal performances were tough to come by against a very competitive field of runners and the hosts had one on the girls side thanks to Avery Sager, who ran a personal best mark of 5 minutes, 30.77 seconds to win the 1,600 meters.
The sophomore stalwart also just missed claiming the 800-meter title, finishing with a runner-up time of 2:30.31.
Durant was strong in the hurdles as well with Skyla Conditt taking second in the 100 hurdles at 17.26 while Iyana Wilson finished third in 17.38. They reversed roles in the 300 hurdles with Wilson cruising to a second-place mark of 49.81 seconds while Conditt checked in fourth in 53.06.
Samiah Clegg added a fifth in the 100 meters at 13.53 seconds, Olivia Crossland was sixth in the 400 meters in 68.48.
In field events, Sheraya Strubble was in medal contention in the shot put and discus. Strubble tossed 93 feet, 4 inches for fourth in the discus as Emma Sherrer was just behind in fifth at 92 feet, 8 inches. Strubble also claimed fourth in the shot put with a heave of 31 feet, 3 ¾ inches as Emma Gardner wrapped up in sixth at 30 feet, 6 inches.
Addi Daniel chipped in a fourth-place lead of 4 feet, 4 inches in the high jump and Bailey Cross cleared eight feet for fifth in the pole vault.
The Lady Lions placed in each of the relays, with the varsity unit of Wilson, Clegg, Kaitlen Rush and Starr Holmes leading the charge in the sprint relay with a fourth place time of 52.89 seconds and the JV unit of Aaniya Jones, Stacia Davis, Storm Holmes and Grace Emert also placed sixth at 1:00.68.
The same varsity unit was fifth in the 800 relay with a time of 1:53.62 and the 1600 relay pairing of Clegg, Crossland, Kayla Cox and Sager checked in fifth at 4:30.33.
Durant had two placing times in the 3200 relay as well with the varsity foursome of Judi Free, Sager, Brooklyn Hill and Laynee Emert ending third at 10:50.79 and the JV grouping of Crossland, Brailey Vaughn, Alexi Powell and Brightyn Pilgreen clocking in at 12:03.15 for fifth in the event.
Boys individual placers were led by Rylan Avery’s third place in the 300 hurdles at 42.02 seconds with Damien Almos grabbing fourth in the 110 high hurdle in 16.27 seconds. K.J. Lowery contributed a solid showing of 2:04.99 to take fifth in the 800 meters.
The Lions’ top relay finish came in the 3,200 event with the unit of Lowery, Madison Roper, Elijah Parker and Carter Kemp ending third with a time of 8:38.24.
Lowery and Roper teamed with Avery and Boston Browder to claim fifth in the 1600 relay, clocking in at 3:37.16. The 800 relay squad composed of Almos, Eric Williams, Juston Andrus and Browder took sixth in 1:35.99 while the same grouping checked in sixth in the sprint relay as well with a time of 45.99 seconds.
