Both Durant soccer squads recorded victories over Atoka while the Lady Lions dropped three decisions against powerful tournament opponents to wrap up the pre-Spring Break portion of the schedule.

The Lady Lions blanked Atoka, 7-0, but found the going tough in the prestigious Collinsville Tournament in dropping a 4-1 verdict to Oologah, 1-0 against Metro Christian and 5-1 versus Noble in 60-minute contests.

Durant’s boys, meanwhile, smacked Atoka, 9-2, but did not participate in the Collinsville event.

Both squads will be back at home Friday night for the important District 5A-1 opening contests against rival McAlester.

Girls

It took a bit for the Lady Lions to get going against Atoka but once they did, it was off and running on the way to the shutout victory.

Alex Martinez was exceptional in goal, pitching the shutout and also scored on a penalty kick.

Kamryn White, J.J. Patten and Aubrey Tomlinson all tallied one goal with White registering seven shots and Patten five. Tomlinson also had an assist. Hailey Ogilby notched three shots on goal, Addison Polk and Jaci Floyd had two apiece with Katelyn Mauck adding one.

Martinez finished with nine saves against the Lady Mustangs.

The Lady Lions had a brilliant defensive effort against Metro Christian but were stymied offensively throughout each half. Martinez posted 12 saves, yielding the only goal on a corner kick that snuck in the net.

Against Noble, the Lady Lions played the entire roster during the consolation contest.

Patten scored the lone DHS goal with an assist coming from Boydstun. Martinez ended with eight saves in goal.

Boys

It was all Lions from the start against the Wampus Cats as they got the offense rolling early and often spurred by the one-two punch of Joseph Flores and Jaylon Saxon as they combined for seven of the Durant goals in the game.

Flores fueled the attack with a spectacular game of four goals coupled with two assists while Saxon wasn’t far behind in punching through three goals while also notching a pair of assists. Sahajen Davis added one goal as did Jack Burrage, who tallied one assist also.

Head coach John Wilmoth also credited strong offense performances from Jesiah Maynard, who assisted on three goals, and Azariel Romero with one assist.

Although they allowed a pair of goals, the Durant defense played well most of the way as Hunter Wingfi eld notched eight saves and Leland Hardwick recorded five in second half action of the win.
