DHS thinclads run at rugged Madill Invitational

Durant High School girls’ track team claimed sixth and the boys took eighth in the rugged Madill Invitational Track Meet last week.

The Lady Lions’ top individual finish against the strong field of competitors came in the 800 meters where Avery Sager ran to a secondplace time of 2:34.42.

In the running events, Aaniya Jones took fourth in the 100 meters at 13.77 seconds with teammate Samiah Clegg close behind with a personal best mark of 13.8.

Skyla Conditt and Iyana Wilson were neck and neck in both hurdle events with Conditt checking in fourth in the 100 hurdles at a personal best 18.05 second with Wilson just behind in fifth at 18.26. Conditt also tagged a personal best mark in the 300 hurdles, crossing the tape at 52.89 seconds while Wilson notched a 53.35.

Three Durant relay teams also placed with the 3200-meter unit of Judi Free, Sager, Brooklyn Hill and Laynee Emert finishing fourth at 11:12.42. The 800-meter foursome of Starr Holmes, Clegg, Storm Holmes and Kailen Rush took fifth in 1:53.80 while the 1600-meter grouping of Clegg, Sager, Hill and Emert notched a sixth-place finish in 4:37.90.

Sheraya Struble had the top Durant field event showing with a third place heave of 31 feet, 7 ¼ inches in the shot put as teammate Emma Gardner took sixth in the same event at 28 feet, 4 ¾ inches.

Gardner edged Struble in the discus with a fifth place individual showing of 97 feet, 9 inches as Struble took sixth at 96 feet, 10 inches. Bailey Cross added a sixth place, but personal best mark of 4 feet, 4 inches in the high jump event.

On the boys side, Damien Almos ran to a fifth place time of 16.84 in the 110 hurdles while Eric Williams claimed fourth in the 300 hurdles at 43.87 and Rylan Avery just behind in sixth by adding a personal best time of 44.54 seconds.

The Lion 1600 relay unit of Spencer Lee, Madison Roper, Avery and K.J. Lowery was fourth at 3:38.78 with the 3200 relay squad of Lowery, Roper, Zach Ervin and Elijah Parker notching a fifth place mark of 8:52.20.

Durant’s 800 relay group of Shajen Davis, Eric Williams, Justin Andrus and Spencer Lee wrapped up sixth at 1:36.21.

Next on the docket for the Durant squads is the Plainview Invitational on Friday before traveling to Ada next week.
