DHS track wraps up regular season at Duncan

While success was difficult to come by against a star-studded field of teams, the Durant High School track and field teams geared up for this week’s regional event by wrapping up the regular season at Duncan last week.

Durant had four individual placers, many which notched personal best times, along with a relay team while battling arguably its stiffest competition to date this season.

The Lions will be on the road for the Class 5A Regional that is slated for Saturday at Union High School in Tulsa.

Avery Sager continued her chase of the 800-meter school record, posting a personal best time of 2 minutes, 25.42 seconds to grab individual runner-up honors. She is currently less than a second off the school record 2:24.54 that Mallory Reed set just two years ago at the state meet.

Sager also set a personal best mark in the 1,600 meters as she crossed the tape in a time of 5:30.27.

The Lady Lion 1600-relay squad of Olivia Crossland, Grace Emert, Andi Kovalcinova and Sager notched a sixth place time of 4:21.45.

On the boys’ side, Rylan Avery posted a personal best in the 300 hurdles as well with a time of 41.65 seconds. Damien Almos contributed a fifth in the 110 high hurdles in 16.04 seconds.
