Durant blasts Antlers in regular season finale

Durant belted Antlers 13-2 in baseball action last week to wrap up the regular season with a 14-12 overall record.

The Lions were slated to travel to Collinsville for the Class 5A regional tournament this week along with Shawnee and Tulsa Rogers in the double elimination event. The survivor will move on to the state tournament next week in the Oklahoma City area.

In the Antlers victory, the Durant offense pushed across runs in all but one inning before the run rule went into effect in the sixth.

Durant went ahead for good with a run just two batters into the game as Aiden Diviney walked, stole second and scored on a Holdan Robinson single. The Lions added two more in the second after Jacob Jones and Robinson picked up the RBIs with hits.

Antlers scratched out a couple of tallies in the second to narrow the gap but Durant once again shifted the momentum in the fourth stanza as three Lion runners crossed the plate. Elijah McClure had the lone hit of the inning as DHS took advantage of two Bearcat errors and a pair of free passes.

Another error aided the Lions’ seventh tally in the fifth frame and a six-run uprising put it away early. Colton Poore, Reid Thompson, Diviney and Robinson all singled and Cole Robbins capped the production with a two-run homer over the rightfield wall.

Robinson finished with three hits, drove in four and scored twice to pace the Durant 11-hit onslaught. McClure and Poore posted two hits apiece with Diviney, Robbins, Thompson and Jones all contributing one.

Thompson cruised through five innings on the mound to pick up the pitching victory, yielding two unearned runs on four hits while striking out three and walking two. Ryder Jones tossed in an inning of perfect relief.
