Durant falls to Caddo in softball battle

Although they had as many hits as their opponent, the Durant Lady Lions couldn’t overcome seven errors in a 7-2 loss to Bryan County powerhouse Caddo in softball action last week.

That was only part of a rough week for the Lady Lions as they dropped district verdicts to Coweta (7-5) and Tahlequah (10-0) while also losing to Dickson (12-0) as offense was hard to come by.

There was no score in the third inning of the Caddo matchup, when the Lady Bruins broke on top with a walk, two DHS errors and singles from Kayden Cowan and Laynie Busby to score three runs.

Daniel’s double in the fourth stanza pushed the Lady Bruin lead to 5-0 before Durant finally pushed across a run on Emma Sherrer’s solo home run.

Caddo tacked on two more runs in the sixth without a hit as they cashed in three Durant errors.

Kaitlen Rush and Sherrer had singles to help load the bases for Durant in the bottom of the sixth but the Lady Lions managed only one run against Brylee Daniel in relief of starting pitcher Harlee Taylor.

The other solid offensive outing came against Coweta as the Lady Lions notched 11 hits but watched the Lady Tigers to score twice in the seventh to force extra innings before winning it with a pair in the eighth.

Sherrer and Korbyn Robinson each homered to help stake Durant to the lead but they couldn’t hold it down the stretch.

Dasia Lewis had a huge game at the plate with three hits, including a double. Kenzee Trotter also smacked a double with Ryan Uber adding two hits and two RBI.

Sherrer only allowed two earned runs but was saddled with the pitching loss despite striking out nine batters.
