Durant girls place in Sherman XC meet

Competing in the TCS Open at Pecan Park in Sherman, the Durant high school girls cross country team claimed fourth in the team standings with the Lady Lions middle school squad taking the team title.

Avery Sager was the lone medalist for Durant’s varsity girls as she placed third with a time of 20 minutes, 58.4 seconds in the 5K event.

Laynee Emert added a 23rd place mark of 24:06.4, Katelyn Hitchcock checked in 32nd at 26:32.3, Rozalyn Brumley was 33rd with a 26:35.3 while Grace Morrison ended 35th in 26:52.9, Kyah French took 36th at 27:01.8 and Alexi Powell wrapped up 38th with a time of 28:41.5.

Durant’s JV girls ran 3,200 meters as Caitlyn Ortega clocked in 20th in 17:42.05, Kamryn Brooks was 25th at 17:56.66 and Abigail Hixon checked in 65th with a 25:37.10.

The Lions varsity had a trio of placers fueled by K.J. Lowery’s eighth place showing of 17:58.71. Chris Becerra was 39th in 19:55.49 while Zach Ervin ended 41st at 19:58.62.

In the JV boys division, Hudson Phillips led the charge with an 18th place finish of 21:09.79, Kason Ford added a 33rd in 22:42.51, Cameron Mauck posted a 46th at 23:26.72, Kyric Lehrling was 55th in 23:59.19, Blake Rhynes tallied a 78th place mark of 25:25.92, Ivan Becerra took 95th at 26:50.42 and Kolson Gordon was 97th with a time of 27:37.11.

Finishing first in the 10team field on the two-mile junior course, Durant’s girls notched three Top 10, fueled by Elizabeth Hitchcock at fourth in 16:04.87 with Archer Brumley taking fifth at 16:05.5 and Vivian Lee ending sixth with a time of 16:06.33.

Other junior high girls placers were Aubri Hixon, 12th (16:41.24); Selena Osorio, 15th (16:56.52); Kenlee Petty, 18th (17:02.29); Olvia Keeling, 38th (18:12.70); Baylee Sullivan, 63rd (19:49.49); Aubrey Perrin, 64th (19:52.21); Julia Rhynes, 71st (20:18.76); Darely Gonzalez, 85th (21:16.72); and Jaydee Seals, 107th (22:45.98).

The Durant middle school boys checked in sixth overall as Jaxon Osuna was a Top 10 finisher, placing fifth individually at 13:15.12. They also picked up placing efforts from Jude Scott, 12th (14:03.55); Pate Wall, 61st (17:17.41); Cole Parker, 68th (17:31.04); Logan Wyrick, 72nd (18:00.39); Collin Parker, 80th (18:24.16); Jacoby Curiel, 97th (19:52.14); Remi Varner, 104th (20:38.81); and Alejandro Reyna, 122nd (23:27.34).

Durant’s high school squads return to action Saturday on the road at Madill.
