Durant’s Junior Varsity and Junior High cross country teams competed well with several high finishes in the Fort Washita Invitational last week.
Rozlyn Brumley was a medalist for the JV girls in 14th place with a time of 17 minutes, 9.98 seconds on the 3,200-meter course. Abigail Hixon added a 27th place effort of 25:57.
The Durant JV boys notched a trio of individual medalists spurred by Chris Becerra’s 19 minute and nine second effort on the threemile course that earned him fifth place. Cameron Mauck checked in 21st in 21:10 and Juan Vazquez was 22nd at 21:30.
Just outside the medalists placings were Landon Emert, 28th (23:14); Daniel De Le Cruz, 30th (23:29); Blake Rhynes, 31st (23:42); Ivan Becerra, 34th (23:52); Abraham Reyna, 41st (31:15); and Ethan Diaz, 42nd (31:15).
The Lady Lion junior high girls had four Top 10 individual efforts in the 1,600-meter race led by Archer Brumley with a fourth place mark of 7:02.66. Elizabeth Hitchcock chipped in a sixth place showing of 7:06.45, Vivian Lee was seventh in 7:07.10 and Selena Osorio contributed a ninth place clocking of 7:28.76.
Other Lady Lions were Aubri Hixon, 13th (7:36.89); Olivia Keeling, 14th (7:39.48); Baylee Sullivan, 16th (7:57.66); Aubrey Perrin, 19th (8:08.20); Julia Rhynes, 20th (8:10.41); Jaydee Seals, 25th (8:49.26); Abigail Gardner, 33rd (9:10.97); and Darely Gonzalez, 35th (9:19.84).
On the boys’ side of things Jacob Osuna was the catalyst, crossing the tape in 13:36.16 on the 3,200-meter course for fourth. Jude Scott ended fifth in 13:58.06 and Logan Wyric claimed 10th at 14:54.73.
Other Lions finishers were Pate Wall, 30th (16:37.13); Cole Parker, 32nd (17:05.72); D.J. Donaldson, 36th (17:42.58); Collin Palmer, 39th (17:48.72); Remington Varner, 46th (19:25.01); and Alejandro Reyna, 55th (22:43.53).
“Our kids are working hard and getting better each meet,” said Durant assistant coach Amanda Reynolds. “We enjoyed watching our new kids run. It’s a very promising future for the cross country family.”
