Durant soccer squads each notch victories

Durant High School soccer teams each posted a pair of victories in season-opening competition last week.

The Lady Lions began the year with a 12-0 thumping of Tulsa McLain and followed with a 6-1 triumph against rival Ardmore.

On the boys’ side, Durant blitzed Tulsa McLain for a 7-1 win before back-to-back penalty kick decision with a 3-2 loss to Ada and 3-2 victory over Ardmore.

Both teams are slated to be in action at the rugged Collinsville Tournament beginning on Thursday.

Girls

Coach Katie Williams’ club had plenty of contributions with the whole squad seeing plenty of action in the blasting of McLain.

Katelyn Ortiz led the charge with three goals as well as one assist. Karah Boydstun, Kamryn White and J.J. Patten all contributed two goals for the Lady Lions. Boydstun also pitched in three assists with White chipping in one assist.

Other Durant goals in the contest came from Hailey Ogilby as well as a penalty kick score from Aubrey Tomlinson, who also posted a pair of assists. Alex Martinez tossed in the shutout in goal for Durant and also scored on a penalty kick. Addison Polk tallied one assist.

The Lady Lions peppered the goal in rapid fashion against Ardmore with 11 of the shots coming from Boydstun, who scored three times and contributed one assist.

Ortiz scored once on five shots on goal, adding an assist. Patten scored once on four shots and Polk found the back of the net on her only shot on goal in the game.

Tomlinson was a gamechanger on the defensive backline, according to Coach Williams, while also contributing two assists.

Katelyn Mauck and Aubree Wise finished with one assist apiece with White adding four shots on goal in an aggressive style at right wing.

Boys

It was a solid offensive effort for the Lions in a seven-goal flurry against Tulsa McLain as Braylen Lyday came up with three of the scores to pace the offensive charge.

Jaylon Saxon, Israel Soliz, Shajen Davis and Landon Laster all pitched in one goal as Soliz had an assist along with Jack Burrage, Isaiah Quiros and Joseph Flores.

Hunter Wingfield was outstanding in goal with nine saves, allowing just one goal on a penalty kick while also saving another penalty kick.

The Ada contest saw Durant get goals from Lyday and Saxon before coming up short in the penalty kick extra period. Aiden Sager and Quiros both had one assist as Wingfield recorded seven saves in goal.

Durant turned things around against Ardmore with regulation goals coming from Flores and Burrage. Soliz and Burrage picked up assists with Wingfield turning back plenty of Ardmore attacks with 14 saves in the win.
