Both the Durant girls and boys basketball teams split District 5A-4 contests last week.
The Lady Lions dropped a narrow 47-45 verdict to Glenpool in a battle for the league lead but bounced back to throttle Tulsa Memorial, 48-22.
Durant’s boys had a reversal of results with a 54-34 triumph at Glenpool but fell 71-26 to the powerful Chargers.
Each squad will participate in the Atoka Tournament this weekend before district play resumes next week.
Girls
A 14-10 early surge by Glenpool gave the Lady Warriors an early edge in the huge district showdown and left Durant trying to keep pace the rest of the night.
Each team tallied 14 points in the second period and the Lady Lions rode eight points from Abrianna Freeman to a narrow 12-11 advantage in the third that narrowed the gap. They continued to close in the fourth but were never able to get over the hump for good.
Iyana Wilson fueled the offensive charge for Durant with 14 points as Freeman also reached double digits with 12. Ella Sorrels tallied nine as Anslee Morse contributed seven and Avery Blackburn ended with three.
The Lady Lions took control early in the Memorial victory spurred by a stellar defensive performance. They yielded only two points in the first quarter and two more in the second while building a 24-4 halftime cushion before continuing to pull away in the third quarter.
Sorrels poured in a game-high 17 points and Wilson added 15 in fueling the Durant scoring. Freeman notched seven along with three points each from Emma Green and Stacia Davis. Blackburn chipped in two points.
Boys
Tashaun Williams was the Durant offensive catalyst, pumping in seven of their 13 first quarter points and all 10 in the second to single handedly outscore Glenpool while building a 23-14 halftime edge.
The Lions continued to pull away following a massive 18-5 third period burst.
Williams had a strong outing in leading all scorers with 23 points. Boston Browder and Leon Stone contributed seven apiece, Joseph Flores scored six with Jayden Whitmire and Braylon King both posting four points as well as three from Malachi Valliere.
Offense was tough to come by in Memorial outing as the Lions trailed 17-8 after one frame, 36-13 at intermission and 55-16 following the third.
Williams and Tyrese Williams each scored six, Flores tossed in four, Browder and Stone scored three apiece with Zach Ervin and Kenyon Johnson both tallying two points.
