Dominant pitching fueled the Durant Lions to a district baseball sweep of Glenpool last week.
The 10-0 and 2-1 DHS wins kept them unbeaten in league play at 4-0 while moving to 6-1 overall.
Staff ace Cole Robbins got the pitching start in the opener and fired six strong innings allowing one lone hit to go along with six strikeouts and only two free passes.
Durant wasted little time in blasting its way to four first inning runs and never looked back as a Graham McIlvoy RBI trip and Maddox Arnold two-run homer proved to be the biggest blows. The Lions tacked on two more tallies in the third frame, three in the fourth and a final run in the sixth that ended it early on the run rule.
They made the most of nine hits in the game, fueled by two Lucas McClure doubles. Arnold also had a pair of hits, including his home run.
Robbins, Jared Avalos, Holdan Robinson, McIlvoy and Elijah McClure posted one hit apiece.
Game two was a pitcher’s duel throughout but the Lions’ Lucas McClure was up to the task, twirling a complete game two-hitter as he fanned 10 and walked three.
Glenpool scored the game’s first run but Durant answered with two in the second stanza that ended up being decisive. Colton Poore notched a double and Robbins contributed a two-run single for the only DHS runs.
The Lions finished with just five hits, two of which came from Robbins. McIlvoy, Robinson and Poore all had one hit.
