After her mother passed away a couple of years ago, Durant’s Macee Hall knew she had to achieve her mother’s dream of her going to college and becoming successful.
The senior track stalwart will have just that chance, recently signing a track and field scholarship with East Central University.
Hall has been a standout in the hurdles for the Lady Lions in recent years, running both events with her top marks of 16.7 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles and 52.53 in the 300-meter hurdles. She is expected to compete in both events at the college level as well.
“I really fell in love with the hurdles my freshman year,” Hall said. “After my mother passed away my goal has been to try and get the chance to go compete in college. I haven’t always had the confidence in myself, but my coaches did. But now I am motivated more to continue to get better and help those around me as well. Coach Reynolds has really pushed me hard to get where I am today and Coach Allen has really helped me become a better hurdler.
“EastCentralfeltlikehomewhen I went there to visit and that’s why I chose there. They try to push you to where you want to be and made me feel really comfortable. My goal this year is to continue improving and help motivate those around me and be a great teammate. Try to instill that confidence in them that I didn’t always have.”
With the track and field season just underway, Hall should have several opportunities to continue improving on her top numbers and hopefully challenge for a state qualifying spot come May.
She ran a 22.59 for fifth place in the 100 hurdles at the wind-marred opening meet at Marietta but should have a chance to improve on that this week at the Madill Invitational.
“Macee is such a great kid and hard worker,” said assistant coach Amanda Reynolds. “She stays late during the off season and during the season working to get better. She is also a great mentor to the younger kids. She always has a smile on her face and is eager to please and get the job done.”
