Lady Lions double Tish in offensive explosion

Scoring the most runs in a game since 2019, the Durant Lady Lions notched a 20-10 slugfest victory against Tishomingo in the regular season home finale last week.

In their only other contest a week ago, Coach Jimmie Wyrick’s unit came up on the short end of a 5-0 verdict with Heavener heading toward this week’s pivotal district finisher at Coweta that will decide the regional tournament host.

Things got off to a rocky start for Durant in the Tishomingo outing, spotting the Lady Indians four early runs before rallying with five in the second stanza. Paisley Greenhaw singled to drive in two for the key blow.

The Lady Lions then trailed 10-5 through four innings before Kenzie Trotter came on relief to stabilize things in the pitching circle and yield only one hit with four strikeouts over three shutout frames of scoreless closing.

Durant narrowed the gap with a pair of runs in the fifth, ignited by a Dasia Lewis home run, but it was a nine-run eruption in the sixth inning that proved to be the dagger in the comeback.

Emma Sherrer opened the frame with a solo home run and the rest of the production all came with two outs aided by multiple Tishomingo errors. Alli Pratt tripled to plate a pair and tie the score, Korbyn Robinson doubled and Anslee Morse also contributed an RBI single.

The bats continued to roll in their final at bat with Allee Cooper knocking in one with a single and Lewis adding two more on a double.

Every player in the starting lineup had at least one hit for the Lady Lions with Lewis and Kinsley Odom posting two apiece. Morse, Cooper, Sherrer, Robinson, Trotter, Pratt and Greenhaw all had one hit.

Offense was much tougher to come by in the road outing at Heavener as they managed only one hit on a single by Odom and were victimized by eight defensive errors.
