Lady Lions dump Del City for home victory

After getting back on track with a stout win over Del City early last week, the Durant Lady Lions dropped a tough district road verdict at Shawnee along with a pair in the rugged Duncan Festival.

The Lady Lions will be back home this weekend, hosting their annual tournament at the Durant Multi-Sports Complex.

Durant scored early and often in the 9-0 triumph against Del City, capitalizing on six Lady Eagle errors while outhitting the visitors 9-4.

Emma Sherrer went the distance in the pitching circle, tossing a four-hit shutout that included 10 strikeouts. She also walked three batters.

Only one of the nine Lady Lion hits went for extra bases as Kaitlen Rush notched a double as part of her two-hit night while driving in three runs as well.

Ryan Uber contributed a pair of hits as well.

Coach Jimmie Wyrick’s squad had a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning looking for a season sweep of Shawnee but watched the Lady Wolves rally for three runs in their final at bat for a 4-2 decision.

Sherrer drove in the first DHS run with a double and they pushed across the second as Dasia Lewis singled and scored on an error. Sherrer tallied half of the four Durant hits in the game.

In the opener at Duncan, the Lady Lions came up on the short end of a 7-2 verdict to Class 3A state challenger Lindsay as they were forced to battle back after spotting the Leopardettes five runs in the second inning.

They got two of those tallies back in the third frame, thanks to their lone hits of the contest – a Lewis runscoring double and Anslee Morse single.

Kenzie Trotter yielded just two earned runs while scattering nine hits but was hindered by four Durant defensive miscues.

The Lady Lions’ final contest of the event was an 11-0 loss to the host Lady Demons as Brynn Ritenour had the only Durant hit.
