Four straight wins ignited a great week for the Durant Lady Lion softball team, including a pair of vital district triumphs.
The Lady Lions trumped McAlester (4-3) in a tight one before throttling Del City (11-1) and Madill (11-2). They closed the week by cruising by Sallisaw (10-2) before seeing that win streak snapped in a 6-2 loss to 4A power Broken Bow in the McAlester Festival.
Coach Jimmie Wyrick’s squad will face another big test this weekend when they travel to Duncan for the Southern Oklahoma Invitational.
In the McAlester victory, Durant pounded out 13 hits but was slowed by five errors that resulted in three unearned runs for the Lady Buffaloes. Emma Sherrer rose to the occasion in the pitching circle, however, firing a complete game seven-hitter that included seven strikeouts and no walks.
The Lady Lions built the early lead with two runs in the first and one in the second but could never fully put the visitors away.
Dasia Lewis led the charge offensively with two hits (including a double) and two runs batted in. Sherrer, Korbyn Robinson and Kinsley Odom also tossed in two hits apiece with Alli Pratt and Harper Plymale both contributing doubles.
Del City scored first against the Lady Lions but after that it was all Durant as they plated 11 unanswered on the way to the run rule verdict. Kenzie Trotter twirled five solid innings and earned the win while scattering four hits.
Allee Cooper tripled as part of her two hits, scored three times and drove in one to pace the DHS attack. Paisley Greenhaw also notched a pair of hits with Sherrer and Robinson tossing in doubles.
The hitting onslaught continued against Madill as the Lady Lions exploded for a season-high 17 hits. A massive outing from Lewis was the biggest culprit in that as she belted three doubles and a triple, drove in three and scored twice.
Sherrer contributed three hits as Anslee Morse, Robinson and Odom tallied two apiece. That was plenty of support for Sherrer, who tossed all five innings and yielded three hits with seven strikeouts along the way.
Trotter got the pitching start against Sallisaw and cruised for the second straight game, firing all seven innings in which she allowed two unearned runs on five hits and struck out four.
Lewis continued swinging a redhot bat with a home run and three RBI while Robinson also notched a homer along with a double and single. Cooper added two hits as well.
The Broken Bow battle was a pitching duel until the sixth inning with the Lady Savages came alive with five runs to break a 1-1 deadlock.
Pratt posted a double with Morse, Robinson, Trotter and Odom adding a single apiece.
