Lady Lions notch strong week, take 4 wins

With their best week of the season the Durant Lady Lions more than doubled their win total for the year that included a 3-2 record in their own tournament over the weekend.

Coach Jimmie Wyrick’s squad opened the week with a 9-6 triumph against Antlers and added tournament victories against Hilldale (6-2), Comanche (12-9) and Ada (3-2). The Lady Lion losses came to Valliant (7-1) and Tishomingo (11-3).

Durant returns to district action this week with all-important league outings with Coweta and Tahlequah.

The Lady Lions rode one of their best offensive outings of the season to the Antlers win as they outhit the visitors 10-5 and then held on in the final inning.

Production was spread throughout the lineup as seven of the nine batters all contributed at least one hit. Kenzie Trotter led that charge with three hits, including a double, while Harper Plymale also notched two hits. Korbyn Robinson tallied a triple as Anslee Morse, Emma Sherrer, Ryan Uber and Lola Henry each finished with one hit.

Trotter also went all seven innings in the pitching circle, yielding no earned runs while scattering five hits and striking out five.

In the Hilldale win, Durant scored all of its runs in the third inning and coasted the rest of the way. Rush, Sherrer and Trotter posted singles as they took advantage of three walks and an error. Sherrer earned the victory, scattering five hits over five pitching innings.

It was a dramatic final frame rally that spurred the Durant win over Comanche as they scored eight times in their final at bat after trailing 9-4.

The biggest blows of the late surge were a three-run homer from Uber and a Dasia Lewis two-run home run.

Durant added a pitching dual triumph against Ada as the Lady Lions made the most of one hit – an RBI single from Ibarra. Sherrer held the Lady Cougars in check for five innings, allowing six hits and fanning six.

Uber recorded the Lady Lions’ only two hits in a loss to Valliant with Morse, Robinson, Lewis and Plymale tossing in one apiece against Tishomingo.
