Addison Polk and Loryn Lopez claimed girls championships and the Durant Lion wrestling team captured a pair of fourth place individual finishes in the rugged Midwestern Conference Tournament last weekend at Firelake Arena in Shawnee.

Polk won the girls’ 105-pound division to improve her season record to 24-4, dropping Anjelica Morales in a 3:39 fall after receiving a bye to the semifinals. Then in the championship she dispatched Ada’s Ellababe Fisher in a 5:49 fall.

Lopez meanwhile cruised to the 110-pound title, receiving a bye in the first round before a 4-0 decision against Olivia Miller from Harrah in the quarterfinals. She then followed with a 6-1 semifinal verdict over Noble’s Christian Vinson and then earned a disqualification win versus Gabby Lozano from McLoud in the title match.

All three of the Durant boys placers came in the weights from 132 pounds to 144 pounds.

Matt Frazer advanced to the championship semifinals at 132 and Aiden Polk did likewise at 138 before each settled for fourth place medals. Bo St. Clair was knocked in the quarterfinals but rebounded to capture sixth place at 144.

After a first round bye, Frazer dropped Bethel’s Zack Griffin in a 2:56 fall and also stopped Brayden McGilbray for a fall at 3:53. He rebounded from a major decision setback in the semifinals to scored an 8-2 decision against Conner Hopkins from Noble, but lost a 3:12 fall verdict in the third place matchup with Chandler’s Kayden Maguire.

Polk took a similar path at 138 pounds as he opened with a 1:29 pin of Mavrick Wingo of Bethel. He added a 1:41 fall win against Newcastle’s Kage McLean ahead of a narrow 5-3 loss in the semifinals against Cade Maynes of Community Christian. He rebounded to stifle Tyler Bryant from Tecumseh in a 4-0 decision before a narrow 6-5 loss to McLoud’s Ryatt Hernandez.

St. Clair recorded wins in three of his six conference matchups, posting a 1:49 verdict versus Ryan Lawlet from Community Christian in the first. A narrow 5-3 loss to Louden McDoulett of Harrah was followed by a pair of victories. He stopped Ada’s Lane Haines for a 2:54 fall decision and Layton Teichroeb in a 4:24 pin. A slim 3-1 loss against Tecumseh’s Xavier Kommer and 3:01 fall defeat against William Harris of Pauls Valley ended the run.

Several other Lions posted victories but came up just short of medal matches in their respective weight classes.

Braeden Emert notched three fall wins at 157 pounds, downing Evan Anderson of Bridge Creek in 1:30, Coby Thompson from Little Axe in 1:51 and Jayden McCain of Madill at 4:30. Also at 157 pounds, Brodi Payne was a two-match victor, notching an 11-4 decision over Davis’ Maverick Alexander and a 4:17 fall win against teammate Emert.

Klayton Smith scored a pair of wins at 113 pounds with a 3:05 fall over Anadarko’s Alejandro Zamacona and 1:31 pin of Connor Reynolds from Community Christian. Asa Pierce also notched two fall victories at 175 pounds as he downed McLoud’s Maddox Gober in 1:36 and Bethel’s Waylon Sturgill at 4:00 even. Aaron McKay finished with two wins at heavyweight with a 3:38 fall against Noa Seals of Madill and needing only nine seconds to dispatch Matt Burris from Prague.

Single match winners for Durant were Shawn Humphrey at 120, Hunter Romero at 190 and Axel Thurman at 215 pounds.

Humphrey toppled Brady Fabbri of McLoud in a 3:00 fall, Romero knocked off Harrah’s Cayden Brown in 1:40 and Thurman tallied a 2:48 fall over Justin Sumrall from Noble.

The Lions are slated to be back on the road at the Glenpool Tournament Friday for their final scheduled action of the regular season.
