Facing must win situations down the stretch in order to keep their playoff hopes alive, the Durant Lion soccer team came through in a big way with a 1-0 win over Noble and 3-1 against Duncan to secure the Class 5A postseason bid.
The Lions, who are 8-3 on the season, will travel to Guthrie for the playoff opener on Monday.
Against Noble, Jaylon Saxon provided the only goal of the match with a little over six minutes remaining to seal the victory. Joseph Flores posted the assist.
“It was a defensive struggle throughout which we were able to find a way to win,” head coach John Wilmoth stated. “I am really proud of the effort we gave.”
Facing Duncan, Braylen Lyday punched through an early goal off a great cross from Saxon that gave Durant a 1-0 edge that held up throughout the opening half.
After a tying goal from the Demons, the Lions put it away in the final 10 minutes thanks to scoring goals by Lyday and Jack Burrage.
