Durant basketball teams wrapped up the regular season last week with a pair of tough losses to Tulsa Rogers on Senior Night.

In the opener, the Lady Lions had a pair of opportunities to take the lead in the final minute but were unable to convert in a 50-45 defeat.

The Lions saw a halftime lead slip away in the nightcap of a 51-43 loss.

Durant’s girls were slated to be in regional tournament play at Tulsa Washington this week with the boys headed to Collinsville for the new double elimination format in the Class 5A regional.

Girls

Coach Will Robinson’s club got off to a solid start behind a pair of Maya Dodson three pointers and a third trey from Kennedy Lafevers for a 15-11 edge after one stanza.

Things completely turned in the second quarter, however, as two Ella Sorrells free throws proved to be the only Durant points as Rogers rallied for a 29-17 advantage at intermission.

The Lady Lions found a bit more offense in the third period as Dodson canned another three pointer and Sorrells chipped in six, but it was still a 36-26 Lady Roper lead heading to the fourth.

Durant turned up the intensity in the final stanza, tallying 19 points in that frame alone to narrow the gap to 46-45 with just under a minute left with Dodson leading the comeback with eight points.

That’s a close as it got though as the Lady Lions couldn’t convert a pair or chances to go in front and Rogers finished it off with four straight free throws.

Dodson turned in a 17-point offensive performance to lead the charge while Sorrells also reached double digits with 16. Lafevers had three with Iyana Wilson, Emeri Morse and Abrianna Freeman all notching two points.

Boys

After splitting two earlier meetings this season, this one was an expected back-andforth battle through the first half with Rogers up 12-10 after one quarter and Durant claiming a 22-20 edge at the half.

Ryder Jones scored a teamhigh eight points in the first two frames and notched another four in the third although the Ropers edged back in front 34-32. Jaylon Saxon also added seven prior to intermission.

The visitors found a bit more offensive rhythm in the final stanza however, piling in 17 points while Durant managed just 11 and could never close the gap.

Jones was the only double figure scorer with 15 points to pace the Lions offensively. Saxon ended with seven, Tashawn Williams scored six, Kolton Mason and Callaway Nabors each posted five points as Braylen Lyday ended with two.
