Lowery 2nd in 800 at rugged Ardmore Meet

Competing against a powerpacked field likely even tougher than the state meet, medal placings were tough to come by for the Durant High School track and field team at Ardmore last Friday.

Facing foes from a host of 6A schools as well as 5A, Durant’s top finish came in the boys’ 800 meters where K.J. Lowery clocked in with a personal best time of 1 minute, 57.38 seconds to place second in the event.

Damien Almos posted a time of 15.74 seconds to take fifth in the 110 hurdles while Rylan Avery tossed in a fifth in the 300 hurdles as well in a time of 41.84 seconds.

Lady Lion stalwart and record holder Avery Sager sat out the meet with a slight injury.

Durant is slated to be back on the road Friday at Duncan for its final regular season meet before Class 5A regional competition.
