Many area teams peaking on baseball diamond

Silo wrapped up the District 3A-5 championship with a pair of wins over rival Kingston and the Rebels then cruised to the Roff Tournament championship in dominant fashion during a perfect 5-0 week on the baseball diamond.

The Rebels edged Kingston, 8-7, in the first showdown as senior Jaxon Baeza posted a walkoff single in the seventh and fellow senior Bryce Vandenburg ended only a triple away from hitting for the cycle.

Coach Eddie Jeffcoat’s club then cashed in a four-hit complete game pitching gem from Aiden McCarty to complete the sweep with a 7-1 decision.

Silo belted Allen (14-0) in the tournament opener as Blane Beauchamp and Doc Nuffer combined on a three-hit shutout on the mound. Braden Hill and Jory Allen notched three hits each.

The Rebels followed with a 17-1 bashing of Ada with Sam Mendenall carrying a no-hitter two outs into the final frame before settling for the one-hitter. Mendenall aided his cause with a grand slam as Mc-Carty and Jeret House each homered.

In the finals, Silo edged Class B second-ranked Calumet, 4-1, as Hill yielded only one run on four hits in six strong frames of work on the mound. Nolan Northcott twirled a perfect seventh for the save. House and Vandenburg had one hit and RBI apiece.

Caddo Baseball

The Bruins utilized a late rally to upend Tupelo, 6-3, in the Stonewall tournament opener, scoring three times in the seventh to force extra innings.

Caddo’s seventh inning rally was ignited by a Bayler Black single and a walk to Cale Wigington. Jake Green doubled home the first run and Jase Counce added another double to plate two more.

In the eighth, Boen Proctor started the frame with a single and rode home on a Black homer over the rightfield fence that gave the Bruins the lead. Wigington singled and advanced all the way around the bases on two hit batsmen and a wild pitch.

Proctor fired all eight innings on the mound for the victory, yielding just three hits. He struck out three and walked a pair. Black had a monster showing at the plate with five hits in the contest while driving in a pair of runs.

Facing Class B third-rated Stuart in the semifinals, the Bruins came through with the dramatics once again with a Jake Mullens walkoff RBI single in the eighth inning for the 6-5 triumph.

Wigington had the massive outing at the plate with three hits, including a home run and drove in three runs.

Mullens worked the first six innings on the mound, scattering three earned runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and four walks. Jake McKay tossed two scoreless frames of one-hit relief for the victory, fanning four batters.

Calera Baseball

Opening last week with an impressive 5-4 win over fifthranked Dibble, the Bulldogs continued their strong season run with a 9-3 triumph over Caney to move their record to 20-2 on the season.

The Bulldogs finished third in the final Class 2A Division I rankings released on Monday.

Neither team could get much offense going in the Dibble matchup until the final frames and Calera came up with the key hits when they needed despite getting outhit 10-5 for the game.

Coach Ricky Teafatiller’s squad also cashed in four Demon errors. Two of those came in the sixth when Calera scored twice to break a 2-2 deadlock.

After Dibble tied it in the top of the frame, Calera came through again by cashing in a two-out Demon miscue with the game winner coming across on a Lex Carlton single.

Logan Bumgarner fired all seven stanzas, yielding four runs while scattering 10 hits, He struck out seven and walked five.

The Bulldogs trailed Caney, 3-2, in the sixth inning when they erupted for seven runs to take control of the game. Calera got singles from Jaron Varner, Hazyn Applegate and Zaiden Craige.

Applegate also recorded the pitching win in seven solid innings, allowing three runs on six hits.

Colbert Baseball

The Leopards romped to four victories in a perfect slate last week, outscoring the four foes by a combined 36-6 margin.

Coach Zach Crabtree’s group blasted Caney (10-2), cashing in five Cougar errors and getting a pair of hits from Remington Graham along with two RBI to lead the charge.

They followed with an 8-0 no-hit triumph against Tishomingo as Canon Marr went the distance on the mound with only one hit batter away from a perfect game. He struck out eight and walked none.

Colbert finished the week with romps over Vanoss (10-4) and Pauls Valley (8-0).

The Leopards tallied nine hits against Vanoss with Eric Hokett, Brett Parsons and Hudson Brigman all contributing two. Parsons also tossed the pitching complete game five-hitter.

A six-run third inning eruption was the key blow for Colbert against Pauls Valley and gave plenty of run support to Graham, who fired a five-hit shutout.
